Texas Culture

Texas is historically known for oil, cattle, cowboys and wide-open spaces but it also has a rich cultural base. Texas artists such as Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Don Henley, ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Toadies and others have topped the charts for decades delivering a rich sound unique to this region.
 
 
 


 

In Dallas, Deep Ellum is the "So Ho of the South" and for years has proven to be the heart of Texas Blues. Just 3 blocks east of Downtown, the old warehouse district, is a colorful blend of ethnic cultures providing a rich artistic heritage. Once the home of blues legends Blind Lemon Jefferson, Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter, and Lightnin' Hopkins, Deep Ellum is now a thriving, vibrant urban neighborhood. Night life in Deep Ellum is always a unique experience. The very best in current music can be found, from folk to blues, hard driving rock to jazz, reggae to rockabilly or Hip Hop to Cutting Edge Alternative. Edie Brickell, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Sarah Hickman, and countless other musical talents got their start on Deep Ellum Stages. Lone Star Live will showcase cutting edge new talent and deliver the musical experience to the rest of the nation. Deep Ellum’s rich heritage proves to make the perfect location for the premier show of Lone Star Live. Later shows will explore the rich heritage of other cities throughout Texas showing the diverse social, geographic and economic factors that mold the unique style of music found only in Texas.

Edie Brickell, Tripping Daisy Sarah Hickman, Delbert McCLinton, Shawn Colvin, Toadies, Reverend Horton Heat, Willie Nelson, Don Henley, Lisa Lobe, and ZZ Top are just a few of the spectacular talent working and living in Texas. Lone Star Live will showcase the hottest Texas based national acts in a live concert performance along with other regional up and coming talent. In the premier special, RADISH, a hard driving Alternative band from Greenville, Texas will appear with the Ugly Americans,a White Funk band from Austin. Two other local groups will make their television debut in Deep Ellum appearing with Radish and the Ugly Americans.
